I agree, with you, the drama in this fandom is over the top. Still, I can't help but feel if VM just did something or posted something together to signal that they are OK it would calm things down a bit. Tessa knows what people are saying about them/their partnership and I think this is where a lot of the unrest is coming from, people catastrophize the status of their partnership. I'm not saying we need a formal statement, just a little post from them would mellow a lot of people out, imo.
Anon, let me tell you why I don’t appreciate the “I agree, but let me tell you why Tessa and Scott need to do what I want them to do in order for people to not be shitty” narrative that you are suggesting. Let’s be real, it might work for a hot second until the next unnecessary drama at best. Most likely we’ll have people calling it damage control/Shipbaiting/Chaotic/fake and so on. So no, I’m fine with how Tessa and Scott are at the moment, they are taking some much needed time off, we have no idea how much contact they’ve had but I’m comfortable not knowing it and just waiting to find out what’s next when they’ll announce.
That was a nice thing you posted except that it was full of judgment which is what's wrong with this fandom now. More judgment won't solve what's wrong here. People will learn better from examples set by others than being told how someone thinks people should act. I do agree the place is a mess.
the victoria crowned pigeon is a large, mainly ground-dwelling bird native to swampy forests of new guinea. they feed mainly on fallen fruits, their diet supplemented by seeds and insects. they are often considered the largest living pigeon species. the birds’ name is in honor of queen victoria.
I’ve debated back and forth with myself whether or not it would be wise for me to comment on the current state of the VM fandom, but I feel like I must.
I know this might be an unheard plea, a shout into the abyss, but this fandom is going down in flames and something needs to change.
The level of vitriol in this fandom since November 29 is astounding. The nasty words, subtweeting, blatantly rude things said to & about VM themselves and those close to them, the way fans treat each other, the privacy violations, is both terrifying and disheartening.
I used to be part of the Arrow fandom. I remember vividly how awful things got between Lauriver vs. Olicity. How that bled over into the treatment of Katie Cassidy and Emily Bett Rickards (to the point there were very real security concerns about EBR’s safety). How that hatred bled over into nasty comments about Stephen Amell’s wife. The effect it had on the actors, the show, and the fandom was palpable and toxic.
I hate that I’m seeing the same things now with VM, even perhaps magnified by the much smaller size of the fandom.
It’s natural to have thoughts and feelings about the current state of events. Lord knows I have plenty of them. But the negativity seems to have taken over the fandom completely instead of being kept to private conversations where it belongs.
It’s driving away fans. Driving away content creators. And perhaps driving away Tessa and Scott themselves.
A flower that is not watered will wither and die. A fandom cannot thrive on negativity, infighting, and toxic behavior.
Please, I know how easy it is to forget, but we are all real people. Tessa and Scott (and any significant others they may have) are REAL PEOPLE. Please can we strive to remember that.
Remember behind every icon is a person struggling in their own way. Behind every celebrity is a person with loves and hurts just like us.
Let’s all of us, me included, try to spread a little more kindness. A little more positivity. And a little more love.
